Stay tuned to join us in our new space at 2147 Washington Street!
The new Haley House Bakery Café at 2147 Washington Street is a transformative project that relocates and expands on past café operations, creating increased access to essential community services and employment opportunities.
This new café is part of a broader mixed-use development led by Dream Collaborative and New Atlantic Development that will include housing, retail, and arts spaces, including a maker’s space, dance studio, and the Haley House Bakery Café itself.
We’re working with our partners at CoEverything to make sure that the interior design of the new Bakery Cafe reflects the needs and wishes of the community it will serve — and we’d love to get your input! The Haley House Bakery Café (and our beloved chocolate chip cookies) returns to Nubian Square this fall!
The Café is currently undergoing an incredible transformation at 2147 Washington Street, which will turn it into a new and improved community hub. Right in front of our previous location at 12 Dade Street, the new Café will be surrounded by a vibrant mix of retail, arts, and community spaces dedicated to driving economic growth and celebrating culture.
Through this relocation and expansion, we are excited to deepen Haley House’s involvement in the community by providing a dedicated space for quality food, social impact, workforce development, and events that foster connection and engagement.
The Café will be not only a place to access nutritious, affordable meals, but also a warm, welcoming community gathering spot. As a part of Nubian Square, we will be surrounded by a vibrant mix of retail, arts, and community spaces dedicated to driving economic growth and celebrating culture.
We look forward to collaborating with other neighborhood organizations to host activities promoting arts and culture in our community, including cultural celebrations, educational workshops, live music and poetry readings, and more. With the new Bakery Café space, Haley House is dedicated to drawing in diverse community members, supporting local talent, and addressing key social issues facing the neighborhood.
The Bakery Café will revitalize Haley House’s transitional employment program for returning citizens, providing critical job opportunities in a supportive environment that fosters skill-building and long-term career development. The café will also bring light to our other program offerings, including our Life Foundations Training (LiFT) and Take Back the Kitchen (TBK) programs.
A courtyard will connect the new Bakery Cafe location to the original 12 Dade Street site, which will now serve as the dedicated hub for catering and production, enhancing Haley House’s capacity to reach and engage the community on a larger scale.
Haley House uses food with purpose and the power of community to break down barriers between people, empower individuals, and strengthen neighborhoods. We believe in radical solutions: solving problems at their root by challenging attitudes that perpetuate suffering and building alternative models.
