The core responsibilities for summer residents include engaging guests of the soup kitchen and preparing soup kitchen meals. Summer residents will be expected to work 3-4 meal shifts each week (12-16 hours total). After a few weeks, summer residents will also be expected to co-manage meal coordination, including planning the menu and leading a group of volunteers in the preparation and serving of the meal. Other tasks related to the soup kitchen will require approximately 2-4 additional hours per week (food pick ups, recycling, cleaning, etc.). In total, summer residents work 20-25 hours a week and participate in a once weekly community dinner (meal prepared and enjoyed together with the Live-In Community). Many folks also work part time in the neighborhood to earn extra money in addition to the room and board provided by Haley House, and we have funding available for 1-2 summer residents for whom finances may be an issue.
