Established in 1966, we are a small and feisty nonprofit that serves those in need while challenging the attitudes and systems that perpetuate suffering. More specifically, our goal at the Haley House Bakery Café is to create economic sustainability for under-employed women and men and to nurture the Dudley Square community.

Haley House Bakery Café offers food that embraces cultural diversity and healthy living. We choose foods and recipes that are low in fat and high in nutrients while paying homage to the rich culinary traditions around us. And we support sustainable agriculture, buying organic whenever possible and accepting local organic produce from Haley House’s Noonday Farm and The Food Project in Roxbury and Dorchester. We also serve fairly traded coffee and cocoa from Equal Exchange. And of course we recycle!

And what about economic sustainability for those working toward independence? Through our bakery-training program, at least 10 under-employed, low-income women and men each year engage in a six-month training program. While being paid, these trainees (along with our trainers) prepare topnotch food for both our café and wholesale bakery. Once the trainees have successfully completed the program, we help them get jobs.

LOW INCOME HOUSING - Haley House offers well managed, affordable, permanent housing in the South End.

SOUP KITCHEN – reaching out to those still on the streets, we serve breakfast to homeless men six days a week and afternoon meals to elders in our South End location, producing over 40,000 meals a year.

FOOD PANTRY - we distribute food with an emphasis on fresh veggies to those in need on Wednesday mornings in our South End location.

LIVE-IN COMMUNITY - 5-7 committed individuals live together while dedicating their time to managing the soup kitchen and food pantry.

NOONDAY FARM – committed to sustainability both for the land and those who farm it – our farm provides organic vegetables and eggs to people with limited access.
